Performance enhancing drugs are substances that are used to improve any form of activity performance in humans. Using these drugs has many risks but also make active performance better. Some athletes take these drugs to increase muscle mass and others to better their performance9. Some of the risks for drugs like these are severe acne, increased risk of tendonitis, liver tumors and abnormalities, high blood pressure and many other risks. I believe performance enhancing drugs are not good for you but I also think that if someone knows the risks then it is their choice. This is not something I would personally do because of some of the risks that come along with it. I also don’t think people should use them if they are competing in any sports where these drugs would help. I think it is okay if people use them to get stronger but not where they are competing against other people that have not taken the drugs. In professional sports today you can get in a lot of trouble for using performance enhancing drugs. Ben Johnson was one of many athletes that was caught doping or using performance enhancing drugs. He was a sprinter from Canada and was one of the fastest in the world. He set a world record for the 100m race with a time of 9.79 at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. He was later tested for drugs and was found positive for anabolic steroids. The Olympic committee withdrew Johnson’s gold medal and was banned from competing for many years.

The article that I read was Will Sports Return?, and I thought that it was a pretty good article. And my thoughts on the absence of sports is that it has been hard for me not to be able to watch any kind of sporting event especially not being able to watch the NBA playoffs that would have started about a couple of weeks ago. I feel like with that happening it’s harder on a lot of the players than the people watching obviously because they worked hard all season for their team to make the playoffs and now they are not able to, but I feel for teams like the Memphis Grizzlies who made the playoffs this year for the first time in about five years and who knows if they will be able to make it into the playoffs next year. I also think that the return of sports is a little bit risky because even though they say they are going to test the players and have them wear masks I still don’t think that they should risk their lives to play in another game and try to finish the season. But it would also be nice for them to bring sports back because then players will start to get their lives and jobs back and be able to enjoy life again. “Players, referees, and team staff could be evaluated constantly”. I think with them doing small things like this will decrease the chances of players testing positive and being able to play still. I really like how he had questions above each of the articles so that when the readers were finished with that section the question was answered. But I also liked how he had multiple articles that were about all of the sports affected by this like Basketball, Baseball, Hockey, and the NCAA basketball tournament and that really made me enjoy the article because he showed how it affected multiple sports and not just one or two sports.
One big challenge that college athletes face is having money to live. Many players struggle to get meals, or have families at home that are struggling to make ends meet. With practice schedule and classes there is no time for them to get a job, so they have to rely on money coming from home. The temptation to accept money from people is very tempting, but if they accept it they will punished by the NCAA. The overlap of school and sports can be overwhelming for athletes. Andrew Luck, an NFL quarterback for the Detroit Lions, majored in engineering along with having a successful college football career. But he was faced with many obstacles along his path with overlapping schedules. Luck describes his situations like having class from 2-3:30, but also having football meetings at the same time. Do you switch majors, or do you tell your coach you have to miss a meeting the day before a game for class (Sembrat 2). It is a conflict of interest. Another NFL star named Richard Shermann spoke out on the issue and said, “You’re not on scholarship for school, and it sounds crazy when a student athlete says that, but that's one of those things coaches tell them everyday”.
There are many important moments to a person’s life, today you will learn about one. If I could go back to any moment in my life, it would be the 14 year old State Tournament that we ended up winning. I’d go back to it because of how important it was, to change some of the things I did that tournament, and experience the memories one more time. That tournament was really important and fun to me and much others. For my group of friends and I, we’ve never won a tournament that really meant as much as that before. All of us wanted to have our season extend past that weekend so we could play in Colorado for Regionals. Most of us knew that the competition wasn’t that good besides Waite Park, Bemidji, and Baxter. But we still took the tournament seriously. In the tournament I would’ve changed just a few things for it to be an even better experience than it was. First, I wish I was more grateful to be there in that tournament than I was. Also I would’ve been more positive with my attitude towards my teammates and the game throughout the season into this tournament. I also wish I would’ve enjoyed that tournament more than I had. But overall I couldn’t have been happier with the outcome and the way I had played that weekend. I had made many great memories that weekend in Bemidji, that I know I won’t forget. One of the best moments that I’ve ever had in baseball, came in that tournament. It was the top of the 4th, the score was 2-2, and I came in to pinch hit, I hit the second pitch that came to me and it went right over the 3rd baseman for a 2 run RBI double. Another good moment was being at the hotel and hanging out with all my teammates. Then the moment of winning the Minnesota State Championship, and the fact that we were going to Colorado for Regions made it that much sweeter. Like I said, I’d go back to live through the great moments made, redo some things I wish I did before, and because of how much the tournament meant to so many people. And all of that is why I would return to the weekend of that State Tournament.
This blog I am switching it upto my favorte NBA player. Basketball is in Lonzo’s blood. But a key skill that Lonzo has is his shooting ability. His all around shooting percentage was 55 percent, so more than half of the time he is making his shots. His deep range shot is very excellent, his 3 point field goal percentage was 41.2 percent, that is a very high chance of him making his 3 pointers. Despite him being such a good shooter, he also was getting doubted on whether he would be good in the nba because of his form. All over sportscenter they were conversing about how Lonzo's shooting form will do in the NBA. After Lonzo played at UCLA for one season he was drafted in the first round and was drafted second overall to the Los Angeles Lakers at the 2017 NBA draft. After all of this controversy on whether he will be a bust in the NBA or an all star, he ended up having a pretty good rookie year. In the NBA he is averaging about 10 points a game and he has a 35 percent field goal which is not bad. Lonzo will be a future all star. Lonzo Ball's vision on the court is just magnificent. It is very rare to know where all ten players are on the court. There are perhaps 10 guys that see the play before it develops and according to former NBA player, Magic Johnson, Lonzo is one of them. Yet, Lonzo Ball just flat out dominated summer league.Yes I know it is just summer league, but he demonstrated that his vision should translate into the NBA as he gets used to it. His unselfishness with the basketball was on full display and seemed to infect his teammates who all seemed willing to make the next pass. Lonzo played UCLA during the 2016-2017 season. He played there for thirty six games which is equivalent to a season, until he went to the NBA draft. In college he dominated the NCAA. He was averaging about fifteen points a game and was averaging about seven and a half assists a game. Lonzo ball was an all around unselfish player, if he has an open shot he will take it, and if he has an open teammate he will move the ball to them. Lonzo Ball is just an all around dominant player.
I would want to play hockey if I ever made it to a professional sport. Professional hockey is the NHL. I play hockey right now, I have been playing for like 9 years now. It is a game I just really love to play. I love playing with the boys. I first learned how to skate when I was about three. For college I would wanna play for the gophers and in the NHL I would wanna play for the Capitals or Wild. If I do not go anywhere for any sports, or don't play any after highschool I would love too attend either UND or the University of Minnesota to try and major in sports in medicine. I wanna teach my brother how to play hockey and I want him to become an absolute beast. I want him to start when he turns 6, i'm glad I have a little younger brother so I can help him and see him develop as he grows up. I would love for my brother to start working out at a young age so he can be a super strong athlete who loves to train hard everyday.
Bobby Hull was one of the best hockey players to ever play in the 1960’s, was one of the smartest hockey players in the NHL because he could make a crisp pass from any angle. I believe that Bobby Hull was one of the greatest hockey players to ever play because he always put extra work outside of practice. Bobby Hull had a total of 440 goals and 346 assists in the 60’s. Bobby had the second most points in the NHL with a grand total of 786 points. Bobby Hull and his former teammate Stan Mikita were the top two players in the NHL for points, Stan Mikita had a total of 827 points, in 701 games, while Bobby only played 670 games. But Bobby Hull’s slapshot was legendary, Hull’s slapshot was clocked at a speed of 119.5 miles per hour and he could skate 29.2 miles per hour. Hull was the fastest in the NHL, which is how he was nicknamed the “Golden Jet”. Bobby Hull won the Art Ross trophy. The Art Ross trophy is a trophy that is awarded to the NHL player who leads the entire league in points at the end of the regular season. Bobby won the Art Ross trophy in 1966 because he had a total of 54 goals and 43 assists to lead the league in points. Hull’s shot was so fast the puck flew past goalies and he was so fast he would just skate around the defenceman which made it almost easy for him to get points. Bobby was introduced to the hall of fame in 1983. Bobby Hull had a total of 610 goals and 560 assists after he retired from the NHL. Bobby won the Art Ross trophy three times. Hull won the Hart Trophy twice which was given to the MVP of the season, and Hull also won the Lady Bug trophy for having such good sportsmanship and skill. I wonder how good Bobby Hull would have done if he was in the NHL in today’s world? I believe that Bobby Hull was a great player, he had the hardest shot in the NHL and he was the fastest player in the NHL.
Hockey was no doubt about it started up in Canada. But the birthplace of hockey was in Nova Scotia, Canada. Ice hockey is the Canadien game. Ice Hockey was not invented, nor did it start on a certain day of a particular year. It originated around 1800, in Windsor, where the boys of Canada’s first college, King’s College School, established in 1788, adapted the exciting field game of Hurley to the ice of their favorite skating ponds and originated a new winter game, Ice Hurley. Over a period of decades, Ice Hurley gradually developed into Ice Hockey. Yet there wasn’t a set date the first ever indoor hockey game was held on March 3, 1875 in Montreal. A major part about the game of hockey is penalties. A penalty is a punishment for an instrument on the rules. There are many type of penalties, but a minor penalty is the most common. Some examples of minor penalties are tripping, slashing, and interference. Those penalties are all given to a certain player that has to go to the penalty box and serve his penalty for 2 minutes. So your team will only have 4 players and the opposing team will have 5 for a whole two minutes which is known as a power play when you have more guys on the ice. Yet believe it you can also get a 5 minute penalty and a 10 minute penalty. The main way to earn a 5 minute penalty if for fighting someone from the opposing team. The refs will let you fight and they will eventually break it up and take each person to the penalty box and they will serve their major penalty (fighting is allowed in only the NHL). And the worst penalty you can serve is a 10 minute major. In order to get that bad of a penalty you have to check a guy into the boards while he is facing the boards because it is very very dangerous. The length of an NHL game and an olympic game lasts 60 minutes not counting intermissions and breaks, each period last 20 minutes each, same with high school games, each period is 20 minutes also. All of the squirt, peewee, and bantam games period length is around 15-17 minutes each period. Now I am going to talk about some of the key skills you have to have if you want to be a successful hockey player. Some offensive skills you need to have is a somewhat hard and accurate shot, you need to be able to make tape to tape passes, and you have to be a good skater. While playing defense you need to block shots, be able to skate backwards fast, and be able to body up on guys on the other team. Those are some facts about hockey and some of the fundamentals.
Matt Cullen was an acceptional hockey player who was born and raised in Virginia, Minnesota, and later played in the National Hockey Leauge. Matt was such an influence to everyone around him and many kids looked up to him as a role model on and off of the ice. He was a center for twenty one seasons in the NHL. Matt is a three time Stanley cup champion, which is just crazy. That's not all he has accomplished he also tooke a bronze medal at the world championships representing the National USA hockey team. He was traded three different times. Matt started out on the Minnesota Wild, then was eventually traded to the Nashville Predators, then ended up playing for and retiring from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Matt Cullen attended highschool at Moorhead highschool, and later on attended Saint Cloud University. Matt played for a very long time in the leauge, he played for a tota of twenty one seasons and ended up recently retiring during the month of July 2019. Matt Cullen will always be a well known guy in Minnesota and will constantly be changing people lives along the way.
Zdeno chara is the oldet player in the National Hockey Leauge. He will turn forty three years old March 18, and is now the oldest active player in the NHL. Chara is a Slovak professional ice hockey player who is a defenseman for the Boston Bruins, as well as the captain of the team. The best award he has won throughout his career behind the stanley cup was the James Norris memorial trophy during the 2008-2009 season. Despite being the oldest player in the NHL, he is also the tallest standing at six feet nine inches, and six foot eleven inches with skates. He has to have custom sticks made just for him becaue all pro stock sticks are just way too short for him. Chara led his team to a stanley cup final and won the cup in 2011. The thing that Chara is known for is at the All Star-Game he broke the all time hardest shot record of all time, which was clocked in at one hundred and fourteen miles per hour which is just plane out ridiculous. Chara was invited and played in six different all star games and won the hardest shot competition every year he was there. Zdeno Chra has many accomplishments throughout his career in the NHL, but I reallydo beleive he will be retiring very soon.
